What I did yesterday, from memory.

Yesterday I stayed in all morning working on a PHD proposal about Disability Arts Criticism. At 1.30pm I went into town (Nottingham) to run a course on comedy at the Playhouse Theatre, with 'Golden Age', a community group that supports the elderly. Two ladies turned up. We got on instantly, and decided to sit outside to catch some Spring sunshine, but the clouds rolled over, forcing us back indoors. As at last weeks session, the conversation about comedy quickly turned to politics, and an enjoyable three way rant ensued. One participant mentioned that she has a lot of neighbours who are 'on the sick' claiming benefits. She is a life-long Labour supporter, but envies the sense of purpose and momentum UKIP has. We all agreed that there isn't enough social housing being built, and that wages are too low. I look forward to next week, and wonder how it might be possible to develop a comedy out of our discussions. Afterwards, I went into town to buy some Playstation 2 games from cash converter and various second hand shops. This has become an obsession. I bought 6 games for £10. I then walked to my studio at Primary, where I developed an idea for a performance that I have recently applied to make in Oxford. The performance involves using objects amplified with a contact microphone: a musical egg, used as a pregnancy charm, a penny whistle, and other things. Apparently there is a call to ban busking in Oxford, so the work might reflect that pathetic state of affairs. I stayed in my studio for a while playing guitar and singing songs I have written. I then got hungry and left for home, walking back the usual route through Hyson Green to Forest Fields. A guy on a bike said something random to me in passing and I wasn't sure if he was crazy or not. At home I cooked a pizza (gourmet(!) reduced from Sainsbury's Metro) and chatted to my housemates. One has just joined the Territorial Army and bought an ironing board - a new development in the house. After playing a few of the new Playstation 2 games through the video projector (Soulcalibur 3, Need for Speed 2) we decided to watch 2013 movie 'Gravity'. It took a while to get working as the movie was a download and the computer full of viruses, but we eventually got it working. The special effects are extraordinary, well worth the Oscar, but the script and stereotypical gender roles weak. Sandra Bullock was good, made the best of it. I had a few whiskies (Bells) with my housemates, then went to bed around midnight as usual. No troubles getting to sleep.
